Death of Divisions?
If you mark for me as much as I do, give a clicky-clicky to that shiny little “RSS” feed thing at the top of the page. If you’re like me, you mostly ignored them, not knowing what the hell they are for.
But they come in handy if you have a homepage, such as Google that reads RSS feeds. They come in pretty handy for all sorts of things these days. I have my Google Homepage set up to feed me all kinds of wrestling news, and celebrity crotch shots coming out of limos.
Surprise ewrestling tip: Most popular forums can output RSS links, meaning you can use RSS feeds to syndicate information from your forums to your front page of your website.
Moving on from the randomosity, let’s get to the topic at hand.
ARE DIVISIONS DEAD?
I’d say for the most part, yup.
Honestly, is there any need for the various levels in the hierarchy of wrestling federations anymore? If you contrast ewrestling with it’s real world counterpart, you’ll see TNA still hanging on, but slowly getting rid of ‘divisions’.
Cruiser Weight
Is there an honest need for a ‘cruiser-weight’ division? Let’s be honest, that was a fad, made popular by WWE and WCW. It’s kinda old news now. WWE has for all intents and purposes, killed off their various light weight departments. I don’t believe anyone even holds a cruiser weight title anymore. A quick search of the history in WWE, ends with the Cruiser Weight title being held by …Hornswoggle… in 2007. I must have blocked this from my memory.
Rey Mysterio broke that glass ceiling by showing us that a tiny, tiny little pip-squeak of a man can hold a legit World Title, and do it more than once. Then you have stars like Evan Bourn and various “underdogs” that are gaining popularity.
I think it’s time to kill it dead.
Hardcore Division
This was supposed to be something special that turned into a joke, with real federations going all kinds of bat shit nuts with fluorescent tubes, barbwire and even bombs. Then there was that ridiculous attempt by MTV… oh God.. the horrible memories.
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54jV0H_Zqe4
Holy… fuck… t’hell was THAT??
Yeah, MTV created what was basically a parody of pro-wrestling. Cramming 8 hours of bullshit into a half hour toilet. It was kind of like watching electrified bats fucking in mid-air… after shooting up. Kinda hard to tell what the hell was going on, being the show was only a half hour.
Then there’s guys that stapled themselves. In pure ‘Jackass” fashion, there’s a guy that has a cult following… because he likes to fuck himself up in the ring.

The Hardcore division might hold a special place in people’s hearts, with big heights and epic falls, but it’s a passing fad in my eyes.
It’s time for the HC division to die.
Women’s
Yeah, I said it. In real wrestling there’s a reason for a female division. You have to keep the T&A fans happy. As far as T ‘N’ A, they happen to have legit entertaining women that at times can out perform the men. They literally pulled more ratings in at one time.
But in efeds, there just aren’t enough women to go around and that’s always a shame. Most feds I know of are just sausage parties with maybe one chick that happens to be better than everyone on the roster anyway. Always baffled me how when a real girl joins a fed, she usually kills most of the guys in roleplaying.
There are a couple of all women feds out there, but they wouldn’t really need a girl’s division now would they?
Time to lose ‘em.
Tag Team
Oh calm down! Yes, Yes, I said tag team. I think that era has passed. I am not saying tag teams should be gone, tag teams are still popular. But a DIVISION for tag team wrestling seems to have run it’s course. There used to be a time when tag team wrestling was more popular than singles. I am assuming it’s mainly because singles wrestlers that were super popular were rare… this was back when the world champion held his title for years… not weeks.
See: A 1980’s ‘zany’ movie staring Piper, Lou Albano (RIP) and featured mostly tag team wrestling.

You’ll probably have to watch this on Youtube, embedding isn’t allowed.
In real wrestling, tag teams mostly consist of randomly paired together guys who creative “can’t find anything for” at the moment. Sometimes they click, most times it’s just plain weird. Like MVP and Mark Henry. We all know that Mark Henry is on his way out, he just can’t get over. So they toss him with another black guy that isn’t too busy at the moment… make ‘em both wear red and see what sticks. The days of real tag teams is dwindling to a slow death.
In ewrestling tag teams consist usually of one guy handling two people. It’s not unheard of to see two guys who work together as a team but it’s short lived from what I’ve seen. Ego always wins.
In conclusion… because you wouldn’t know this blog was ending without me saying that…
I think divisions just aren’t a necessity anymore. At least this old mind can’t think of many reasons to have them.
Maybe you disagree? Feel free to share your irrational hate for me in the comment section.

Actuallly… The VWF redid it’s Cruiserweight division a long time ago. There was a time, as a fad, that the Cruiserweight Division was the best guys, and almost all of them moved on and up to hold the higher belts in the fed. Currently, it’s renamed the “Middleweight” and used as a lower tier belt.
We also had the fad of Hardcore for awhile, actually expanding the Hardcore Division out to 3 titles, and if you could capture all three, being declared a “Hardcore Icon” similar to a Grand Slam Champion.
The Women’s Divisions in feds almost always suck, because most “real” girls don’t want to be stuck there, and that leaves you with secondary valet characters to hold the belt. We did away with that, along with Cruiserweights and Hardcore a long time ago.
We still have a Tag-Team Division, but I personally feel that most people want to be singles. Sure, they might have a group or stable, but for the most part they want to be a Singles Champion. It’s hard to get dedicated Tag-Teams in e-fedding.
I agree with most of what you said. However, I think that while most fed-heads can’t handle or work the tag division the same way they can world a singles division, it still has a place out there. At the least, it can help give 4 people a storyline much easier than having all 4 feud over a singles belt.

I used to be in a fed where the women could only go for the one title…..it was lame and yeah i definitely didn’t stay. If I was rping my ass off to face the same three people over and over again, not really worth my time. I think most feds have the other titles though to give other people a chance to hold one….some people are good but not good enough to beat the top fedders no matter how hard they try. As it goes for tag team titles…..efeds these days just don’t get enough people to make tag teams…..imo efed in general is dying because people don’t care about the fedding they care about the Character Developmental threads so they can have sex and other “fun” that’s their choice i guess but fed heads need to take charge cause when their rpers aren’t rping cause of those threads then it gets a little lame.

People need to realize that the titles are a prop. Something to feud over. Sometimes, it’s easier to have a belt to fight over than… a cup of cofffee.

A few points to make:
1: Wrestling Society X had a lot of potential and I enjoyed it just because it was different. Had MTV given it a little more time to develop and a 1 hour slot instead of 30 minutes, and gotten rid of the bands playing during the show, it could have been a lot better.
2. Tag Teams consisting of two random guys with nothing else to do is a new thing. A lot of singles stars began as a part of a team, and there have been a lot of star teams in wrestling. In e-fedding, I had a team of my own for quite some time in a fed called EWF that died out a long, long time ago.
3. That same EWF fed also had a Ladder championship, where each title match was a ladder match. It may sound sort of cliche and stale, but I always thought it was a pretty innovative idea and the matches for it were always entertaining. One of my old characters was a long-reigning Ladder champion and even retired the belt shortly before EWF closed(we shamelessly ripped off Medusa throwing the WWF Women’s title in a trash can).
4. I always thought hardcore divisions were a lame gimmick and I generally had a low opinion of any e-fed with a hardcore title.
That’s all I can think of now. Good article.

So, what you’re saying is that Wrestling Society X would have been good? No. Even with the bands not on there or a longer slot time…no. I respect your opinion, but whoever booked the show was horrible. (Then again, I am sitting on my duff responding to a reply. :-p)
I don’t think the “Hardcore” division is a bad thing…as long as the right people do it. In WWE, there really is no one who is worth having hold it. What, can you see a harcore match up between MVP and Randy Orton? Yeah, when I play SMackdown Vs. Raw.
As for the tag team titles, of course it is dead. I agree. When you have teams like Legacy where one member is on his way to becoming a breakout star…and the other one is Cody Rhodes…well, it shows that tag team divisions are pretty much gone. Now, having a tag team PPV where we have Lethal Lotteries for, say, a pair of trophies that claim they were the best team of the night…that would be cool. Instead…we get Bragging Rights.
And, speaking of titles that shouldn’t even exist…LEGENDS TITLE? WHATEVER THAT TURNED INTO NOW WITH WORLD ELITE? Garbage. And they bring in Hogan to save them? Hogan isn’t excellence…JERICHO…IS…EXCELLENCE. (Sorry, I had to) Anyways…good read man.

Yeah, that legends title isn’t even worth a footnote.
