What is eWrestling?
Since my original “intro” to ewrestling is years behind, I thought I’d just write a new introduction for my new word press fueled theme– in blog form of course. Hope you enjoy and learn about our embarrassing little pastime.
What is eWrestling?
First and foremost, eWrestling is a game. It’s a multi-player online simulation of pro-wrestling in all it’s aspects from the promotion of events, booking of matches and the battles between the wrestlers. A group of individuals all take part in the daily operations of an efed or electronic federation. Ewrestling is commonly refereed to as ‘The Game’ and different groups or communities are known as ‘circles’. All of this takes places in ‘The Ewrestling World’. ![]()
On this website, we realize that this might come off as “geeky”, and some might compare it to dungeons and dragons or whatever those nerds play these days, but once a wrestling fan takes part in the core activities and learns to play this game correctly, it’s really good, competitive fun. It’s just a game like any other game played online and we don’t meet up and dress like assholes.
There are no eWrestling conventions and I hope nobody ever suggests one. Our world is made up of all kinds of individuals, and the majority of us are not social outcasts. We’re fathers and husbands, wives, sons, lawyers, no doctors yet but you get the gist. We’re basically pro-wrestling fans who enjoy writing competitively. And yes, there are a few geeks and nerds mixed in. This is a community of course. Overall, in my many years of experience with meeting a plethora of people, I don’t meet many people I would label a nerd or geek. However, this does not take away from the geekiness of pretending to be a wrestler on the internet, which is what ewrestling is.
Let me now explain what eWrestling is not .
eWrestling is NOT the same as ‘Fantasy Wrestling’. Fantasy Wrestling is the same as Fantasy Football and should be distinguished from ewrestling. In Fantasy sports, you commission a league or team based on stats of it’s real world counterpart. In eWrestling, you take part in a group effort to simulate a single wrestling promotion- where every individual plays a part in the role. Many have used these terms interchangeably, but I do not.

On this website, we tend to take eWrestling a little less serious and treat it as the game that it is. A common joke around here is that we openly call it “Pretending to Wrestle Online” to point out the silliness of the whole thing and that we are not oblivious to this fact.
And just so you know; Fantasy Football is pretending to be a football player online as well. Just throwing that out there. Whatever the case, there’s no reason to be inadmissible about it, even though I consider ewrestling and fantasy football/baseball/Nascar no different socially, for whatever reason it’s just cooler to say “I play Fantasy Football” then “I ewrestle”. That’s just how life works.
Note: There are some folks who treat this game as a way of life and might even defend it to the death in a duel. But there are crazy assholes everywhere you go. Kind of hard to get around that.
Not that we don’t take anything seriously, a commitment is a commitment whether this is a game or not. It is considered very disrespectful to back down on your commitments to this game. We all know real life takes precedence over an online game, however you’ll be the recipient of much disdain if you choose to flake or no-show on your responsibilities. Flaking is signing up, showing some participation and then fading away without notice. A no-show is simply that, you sign up and make a commitment, then never show up.
So that’s the decision you have to make- None of us really tend to talk about ewrestling at the water cooler, we don’t wear t-shirts about it, and for the most part, we keep it under wraps that we even do it- Even to other wrestling fans. Which is retarded, because we don’t really brag about being wrestling fans either. Wrestling is just one of those taboo type of passions where unless you’re in the business, you should be a child watching it. I personally have a hard time finding people outside of the internet that seriously watch pro-wrestling. I happen across one or two folks now and then, but it seems nobody really likes to admit they watch it. Not on a serious level at least.
Now with the 10 paragraph, but totally necessary disclaimer out of the way, let’s talk about what this game consists of.
There’s a few roles that you can play in an efed.
You can be the owner. Years ago, this was mostly called the “Prez” or president as ewrestling tends to follow whatever route the WWE is following. This was when the WWE used a president as the major authority.
Now-a-days, this is called the fed-head. Or rather head of the fed. Whatever term is prefered, this is the promoter of the efed. The term CEO, Owner, etc has also been used.
You can also be the co-owner. There’s a similar pattern for this particular title. When the WWE was using “Commissioners”, so there were in ewrestling. Same with “VP” or vice presidents. You’ll find “General Mangers” these days. You’ll also find co-admins and co-owners.
There’s a few staff positions found in eW. They all mirror positions you’d find in a real federation, such as a writer, a booker, a recruiter but you will most likely start your career as an ewrestler.
I recommend not opening a new efed unless you’re absolutely sure that you have the support of a roster, or you have an idea so innovative that it would be a crime not to open an efed. There’s just way too many efeds open these days. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. I explain further here: http://roughkut.com/dontdoit.php
I don’t mean to sound like I’m against opening new efeds, this place wouldn’t be here if I felt that way. I just feel like there’s other things you could be doing than opening a fed with no real plan, nothing original and no members. I feel that before you try to be the next Vince, you should consider helping out another struggling efed first. I don’t want to tell you how to play your game in any case. I see way too many feds just open with nothing going on at all. No members, no history, nothing and they expect people to join for some reason. This time could be better used and it’s counter-productive. I just ask that you put some thought into it first before opening up another fed.
There are countless different types of efeds. Too many to list here, take a look at my EFDB for an idea of what to expect.
As far as being an ewrestler, I have a comprehensive start guide available… it’s a little out-dated as far as wrestlers and such, but you get the idea. http://roughkut.com/create.php
I don’t include the popular ways of bringing your wrestler to life, but I will in a future update of that essay. One way, I enjoy is using real wrestling video game CAW.
My best advice is take a look at a few different communities if you find an interest in this game. You can find them linked in my EFDB and the best way is by following links from different efeds. Sign up, lurk then participate and earn your reputation. I advise against just jumping into this with no real knowledge of how it works. It’s not rocket science but it will get you a few enemies if you do it the wrong way.
That’s all for now! …Uh bye.
