DDPWe all have our favorites. Whether its Ric Flair or Triple H. Larry Zbysko or John Cena. We all have that one wrestler that we follow through thick and thin. We’ll defend them until we’re blue in the face. Dare I say we love them?

Your favorite wrestler is the reason you love or loved pro wrestling. Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing my Top 10 favorite wrestlers of all time. This isn’t a debate or discussion opportunity. Quite frankly I dont care if you like my choices. These men are the reasons I love professional wrestling. I’ll share what made them great, what made me start liking them, and for some, memories of them. Hope you enjoy. Comments are appriciated. Just no beefing please.

#10 – Diamond Dallas Page

Who didn’t like DDP? From the time you heard his voice, “SELF HIGH FIVE!” until he hit the Diamond Cutter, Diamond Dallas Page always tore the house down. I can’t exactly remember what drew me to DDP. I remember his days as a manager, and his early career. I wasn’t a fan of his then, but something changed around 1996. NWO had formed and all the attention was on them, but yet DDP was out there every night having the best or most exciting match on the card. He just had that charisma that you can’t teach. He always had it. DDP had a late start on his career, starting well past the typical rookie age. But you could easily tell he had the charisma during the early years.

One thing that I remember about Diamond Dallas Page is that during the NWO days he was never going back and forth, back and forth, doing the swerves. It’s been said that Sting was the heart and soul of WCW, but I consider DDP the heart and soul. He was always on the WCW side and always made it clear he was against either NWO.

His ring skills usually go un-noticed. He’s of course known for his Diamond Cutter (more on that later) but the rest of his moves were very crisp and wern’t your run of the mill moveset of the early 1990s. His gutwrench powerbomb was amazing to see back then. And then of course the Diamond Cutter. One of the first finishers that I remember that was so sudden like that, where you could have different variations. The Diamond Cutter was one of my favorite moves growing up, wrestling on the trampoline. Always used it as my finisher. Watch any DDP match from his prime. Listen to the crowd when he hits it. Unbelievable sound.

I remember being in middle school, probably sixth grade in 1999. During a middle school basketball game, I got the old school 3 point play (got fouled and made the basket). My friend, who also watched wrestling stood up off the bench and raised his hands in the Diamond sign. No one but us and a few others got it, but from that moment on, that was my sign. It caught on and on 8th grade night during player intros when they announced my name the entire student section did the sign. Pretty cool moment for an 8th grader.

DDP may have been a surprise pick in my top 10, as there were a few others I would have liked to put here, but when it comes down to it, DDP is definetly a favorite of mine. His in ring skills are some of the best from that era, he was always full throttle, and hes had memorable feuds with everyone from Randy Savage to Raven, and even The Undertaker.

Diamond Dallas Page.
